What Is Gum Disease Treatment?

Gum disease treatment is dental care that clears the bacterial infection and inflammation in the gums and stabilises the tissue supporting your teeth. It ranges from gingivitis, the milder and reversible early stage, to periodontitis, a more advanced form that affects the bone supporting your teeth.

Unlike a routine clean, gum disease treatment often involves a deeper clean below the gum line, called scaling and root planing, to remove bacteria that a standard clean cannot reach. At our IOI City Mall clinic in Putrajaya we also use Swiss EMS Guided Biofilm Therapy for a gentler, more comfortable clean, and tailor treatment to how advanced your case is.

We understand that gum problems can feel embarrassing or worrying to bring up, but it is one of the most common conditions we treat. Our team approaches it with care and without judgement, focused on getting your gums healthy again.

How it works

Your treatment, step by step.

1

Assessment

We examine your gums and measure pocket depth around your teeth to determine how advanced the disease is.

2

Deep Cleaning

We carry out a thorough clean below the gum line, called scaling and root planing, to remove bacteria and tartar.

3

Treatment & Monitoring

Depending on severity, further treatment may be recommended, and we monitor your gums closely as they heal.

4

Ongoing Maintenance

We schedule regular follow-ups and share a home care routine to keep gum disease from returning.

Frequently asked questions.

Here is what people ask us most about Gum Disease Treatment.

Early signs include gums that bleed when you brush or floss, redness, swelling, or persistent bad breath. Catching it at this stage, known as gingivitis, makes it much easier to treat before it progresses further.

We use local anaesthesia where needed, particularly for deeper cleaning below the gum line, to keep you comfortable throughout. We also use Swiss EMS Guided Biofilm Therapy for a gentler clean. Some tenderness afterwards is normal and settles within a few days.

Early-stage gum disease, gingivitis, can usually be reversed with proper treatment and home care. More advanced gum disease, periodontitis, can be managed and controlled long-term, though it requires ongoing maintenance to keep it from progressing.

Cost depends on how advanced the gum disease is and what treatment is needed. We recommend booking a consultation so we can assess your gums and provide a personalised quote.

Untreated gum disease can lead to receding gums, loose teeth and eventually tooth loss, as the infection damages the bone supporting your teeth. The earlier it is treated, the easier it is to protect your smile long-term.
