What Is Gum Disease Treatment?

Gum disease treatment is dental care that clears the bacterial infection and inflammation in your gums and stabilises the tissue holding your teeth. It ranges from gingivitis, the milder and reversible early stage, to periodontitis, a more advanced form that affects the bone supporting your teeth.

Before we treat anything, we show you what's going on. We measure the pocket depth around each tooth and take X-rays where needed, so you can see for yourself how far it's gone. Treatment often means a deeper clean below the gum line, called scaling and root planing, to remove bacteria a standard clean can't reach. At iCare Dental in IOI City Mall, Putrajaya, we use Swiss EMS Guided Biofilm Therapy for a gentler clean and match the treatment to how advanced your case is.

We know gum problems can feel embarrassing to bring up, but it's one of the most common things we treat. Our team handles it with care and without judgement, focused on getting your gums healthy again.

How it works

Your treatment, step by step.

1

Assessment

We examine your gums, measure the pocket depth around each tooth, and show you the readings so you can see where things stand.

2

Deep Cleaning

We carry out a thorough clean below the gum line, called scaling and root planing, to remove the bacteria and tartar a standard clean can't reach.

3

Treatment & Monitoring

Depending on how advanced it is, we may recommend further treatment, and we keep a close eye on your gums as they heal.

4

Ongoing Maintenance

We book regular follow-ups and talk you through a home care routine to keep gum disease from coming back.

Frequently asked questions.

Here is what people ask us most about Gum Disease Treatment.

Early signs include gums that bleed when you brush or floss, redness, swelling, or persistent bad breath. Caught at this stage, called gingivitis, it's much easier to treat before it progresses.

We use local anaesthesia where needed, particularly for deeper cleaning below the gum line, to keep you comfortable throughout. We also use Swiss EMS Guided Biofilm Therapy for a gentler clean. Some tenderness afterwards is normal and settles within a few days.

Early-stage gum disease, gingivitis, can usually be reversed with proper treatment and home care. More advanced gum disease, periodontitis, can be managed and controlled long-term, though it needs ongoing maintenance to keep it from progressing.

It depends on how advanced things are. Milder cases are handled at a consultation and a clean, and we'll quote you once we've measured your gums. For more advanced cases that need deep scaling below the gum line, that's RM2,000 to RM3,000. We'll show you what we found and confirm the cost before we start. T&C apply. Results may vary by individual case.

Untreated gum disease can lead to receding gums, loose teeth and eventually tooth loss, as the infection damages the bone supporting your teeth. The earlier it's treated, the easier it is to protect your smile long-term.
